About Hip
Started in 2004, with a small collection of reversible belts. It all began after a locally owned boutique on Elmwood purchased the whole collection and reordered a week later. Another store began carrying the collection after seeing me wearing the belt while shopping in her new store. With additional referrals, other stores began carrying Hip belts even out in Park City, Utah.
Hip expanded from belts into headbands and ribbon watches. I continue to expand product offerings and now have a very broad selection of women’s accessories both handmade and hand selected. Available in stores, at special events and on-line. Recently launched, www.gogethip.com, provides customers the convenience of shopping from home.
I enjoy designing products for each collection and season. Using my background from Pottery Barn, I strive to create cohesive collections that can be worn together or with a wide variety of clothes and other accessories. Each collection is designed to be fashion forward with current trends and colors, but with a practical eye for long-lasting wearable colors and styles.
Hip belts are a perfect length wearable by just about everybody. The regular belt is a generous 45”. Long enough to be worn at your hips or higher on your waist depending on the style of pant. People often ask how can this fit me and a size 6, when I wear a 10? The belts work because, people that wear a size 10, tend to wear the belts higher on their hips than people that wear a six. The length provides people the option of wearing them lower or higher, using the tail holder to hold the extra belt length in place. Unique to Hip belts, each comes with two tail holders to make the belt fit perfectly with each look. It keeps the tail from flopping, making it versatile to wear over sweaters, dresses and tunics as well as with your favorite jeans and khakis. For small women and juniors, Hip also offers a small belt, measuring 40”. Custom lengths are also available. To make sure of your sizing, I recommend that you take a string and wrap it around your belts looks of your favorite jeans. Measure the length and add 4-6” for the tail.
Headbands at the request of early clients, have evolved into hand wrapped hairpieces with colorful fabric and unique adornments. I experiment with various styles and materials. Using vintage pieces and most recently porcelain flowers. I strive to use soft colorful fabrics and of course classic black and everyones favorite black and white. Hip headbands are designed to be long lasting and pinch free.
Currently, each belt, headband and watchband is personally made by me. To offer a broader selection, I enjoy searching for fun pieces that go with my handmade products. My friend gave me the idea to also offer hand selected items and imported items. It started with the velvet beaded bags and ribbon watches and now I have added travel bags and lots of jewelry.
